Soft, juicy, and hazy gold from the first pour.

A concentrated wort kit for brewing a hazy pale ale at home using Black Rock's Crafted Bag in a Box system — no heating, no second can, no sugar additions required. The wort is already made. You pour the bag into a clean and sanitised fermenter, top up with cold water to 23 litres, pitch the included Safale S-33 yeast, and let fermentation take care of the rest.

The grain bill is built for the hazy pale ale style from the ground up: 71% MaltEurop lager malt as the base, with Gladfield wheat malt, carapils, flaked wheat, and Harraways oats added in to deliver the soft body, natural haze, and creamy mouthfeel the style is famous for. NZ Green Bullet hops provide the bittering backbone at IBU 28 — present but not aggressive, keeping the focus on the malt and the dry hops you choose to add.

At 4.8% ABV at the standard 23 litre volume this is a sessionable hazy that drinks beautifully. Brew to a lower volume if you want to push the strength — at 18 litres this kit produces 6.1% ABV. Yeast included. Makes 23 litres. Can be ordered online and shipped.

Dry Hop Recommendations:

Dry hopping is highly recommended to get the full hazy pale ale experience. Add hops approximately 2 days into fermentation during active fermentation. Use 50 to 200g of fresh, refrigerated, nitrogen-flushed hop pellets. Suggested combinations by style:

  • New England Hazy Pale Ale: Citra, Mosaic, and/or Amarillo — juicy tropical fruit with citrus and stone fruit notes.
  • West Coast Hazy Pale Ale: Simcoe, Centennial, and/or Cascade — pine, citrus, and floral character.
  • Australian Hazy Pale Ale: Galaxy, Vic Secret, and/or Enigma — intense passionfruit, peach, and citrus.
  • New Zealand Hazy Pale Ale: Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, and/or Riwaka — tropical fruit, lime, and gooseberry.
  • Tropical Hazy Pale Ale: El Dorado, Azacca, and/or Sabro — pineapple, mango, and coconut.
  • Citrus Hazy Pale Ale: Lemondrop, Mandarina Bavaria, and/or Sorachi Ace — lemon and citrus zest.
  • Classic American Juicy: Go tropical with Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo, or El Dorado for that fruit salad explosion.
  • NZ Hop Combinations: Get adventurous with Superdelic, Nectaron, Motueka, or Nelson Sauvin for unique Southern Hemisphere magic.
