Amber, bold and quietly showing the pale ales how it is done.

Golden, bold, and proud of it. Black Rock Golden Ale is brewed with a blend of NZ Ale, Lager, Caramalt and Roasted specialty malts for a rich golden amber colour and assertive 27 IBU bitterness. This is a step up from the everyday pale in every way that matters.

More character, more colour, more flavour. Complex enough to be interesting, drinkable enough that the glass does not stay full for long. Previously listed as Black Rock IPA, same kit, more honest name.

Makes 23 litres (about 60 stubbies or 47 schooners). Yeast included under the lid.

Brewing Instructions

Extract Can Brewing Instructions

  1. Clean & sanitise. Everything that touches your beer. No shortcuts.
  2. Make your wort. Pour 2L hot water into fermenter. Soften can in hot water (10 mins), empty into fermenter. Add fermentables (~1kg), stir until dissolved. Top up to 23L. Wort made. Legend.
  3. Cool & pitch. Cool to 18-22°C, take a gravity reading, sprinkle yeast on top.
  4. Ferment. Seal up, add airlock, find a dark spot at 18-22°C. Dry hop on day 4 if your recipe calls for it — just chuck 'em in.
  5. Check gravity. From day 5, take readings on consecutive days. Two identical readings under 1.016? You're done.
  6. Package. Bottle with carbonation drops or priming sugar, or keg it. Bottles need 2-4 weeks. Kegs are faster — obvious choice.
  7. Drink & brag. You made beer. Get around it.
