Caramel sweetness, toffee malt depth and a clean dry finish — Brick Road Red Ale is a proper session red with some real character and none of the craft brewery price tag.

The Red Ale is all about the malt. Caramel and toffee flavours from the specialty malt blend give it that warm amber colour and satisfying sweetness you want in a red. The dry finish keeps it from being too much this is a beer you can drink several of without feeling like you have eaten a dessert. Brewed from Muntons premium all-grain wort, reduced to 80 brix to retain full flavour.

ABV options:

  • 2.6% — brew with 220g dextrose for a light-bodied session red
  • 3.5% — brew with 400g dextrose for a mid-strength everyday red ale
  • 4.8% — brew with 1kg dextrose or 1.5kg Brick Road Extra Light Malt Extract for a full-strength red

What you get:

  • 1.5kg can of hopped Red Ale wort concentrate (Muntons all-grain premium malts)
  • Ale yeast sachet under the lid
  • Makes 23 litres

Optional dry hop additions: No need to dry hop this malty beauty, but if you fancy it:

  • 15g of East Kent Goldings, Fuggle or Magnum will bring sweet, floral, spicy notes that complement those toffee flavours perfectly
Brewing Instructions

How to brew your Brick Road Red
Ale:

  1. Pop the lid and retrieve the yeast sachet from underneath. Set aside.
  2. Stand the can in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes to soften the wort.
  3. Dissolve the contents into 2 litres of hot water in a clean, sanitised fermenter.
  4. Add your choice of adjunct (see ABV options above) and stir until fully dissolved.
  5. Top up with cold water to reach 23 litres. Stir well and check the temperature is between 18 and 28 degrees C.
  6. Sprinkle the yeast over the wort surface, seal and fit the airlock.
  7. Fermentation usually kicks off within 6 to 12 hours. Leave it for 7 days minimum.
  8. Once the gravity is stable for two consecutive days, you are ready to bottle or keg.

Pro tip: For a sweeter, richer red ale character, try 1.5kg Brick Road Amber Malt Extract instead of dextrose to bring up the caramel notes.
