Still Spirits T500 Copper Saddles 100g

Copper column saddles are added to the T500 reflux column alongside stainless steel saddles to improve distillate quality through a chemical reaction that stainless alone cannot provide.

Copper reacts with sulphur compounds in the alcohol vapour — particularly hydrogen sulphide and other volatile sulphides produced during fermentation — and permanently removes them from the vapour stream.

These sulphur compounds are responsible for rubbery, eggy or off-putting notes in distillate. Stainless saddles create the reflux surface area for purity; copper saddles do the chemical work of cleaning the vapour.

Most experienced T500 distillers use a combination of both.

A 100g addition of copper saddles to a full stainless column makes a noticeable difference to distillate character.
